"Bicycle Mass" in a Bavarian Church

Rev. Herbert Gugler, a parish priest at the Church of the Assumption in Aichach, Diocese of Augsburg, Germany, led a "bicycle service" on 13 July. Pictures were shared on social media. In his "sermon", Rev Gugler compared the liturgical oils to oiling the chain of a bicycle (sic). After the Eucharist, around 200 bicycles were blessed outside the church. Gugler is known for his attempts to make the Novus Ordo, which he finds seemingly empty and boring, even more banal. In June 2023, he conducted a similar bicycle service. On 14 July 2024, he organised a Eucharist in the tent of a public festival attended by 1000 people. On 29 June, he has presided at a football Eucharist in which children kicked a football into a mini goal. The audience came to church wearing football shirts. Source
