A man wearing a rucksack and shorts, looking like a tourist, entered the Sacré-Coeur church in Nice, France, at 2.40pm on Friday 6 September.
The church is located on the Rue de France in the heart of the city. According to France3-Regions.fr (6 September), the burly man was angry and began to destroy the statues.
Then he went down to the crypt where people were praying. He threw his knife at a lady who tried to dodge the deadly instrument.
On his way out, the criminal smashed another image of the Virgin. He was arrested by the Nice municipal police.
The man's identity has not yet been revealed. According to Nice-Matin, he is suspected of throwing stones at a second church. Source
