'Extremely fit' woman, 22, collapses and dies a mile before the Cleveland Marathon's finish line

A 22-year-old Ohio woman died after collapsing while running the Cleveland Marathon Sunday. Taylor Ceepo, 22, of Medina, Ohio, was running in the 42nd Annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon Sunday morning when she collapsed less than a mile away from the finish line, according to Cleveland 19. Ceepo, who recently graduated from Walsh University where she played soccer, was transported to the hospital. Doctors said that she was dead when she arrived at the hospital and that it was too soon to provide information about what might have led to her collapse and death, Cleveland.com reported. 'She was extremely fit,' family friend Ed Sutter told News 5 Cleveland. 'So, none of it makes sense other than something that’s undetected.' Hospital officials told WXYZ that they had treated between 60 to 70 marathoners for ailments including heat illnesses, dehydration, muscle strains and orthopedic injuries during the race. Temperatures during the race hovered around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Ceepo played on the women's soccer team at Walsh and majored in biology. As a high school soccer player, she was ranked fourth in the state. Source
