During questioning, Shields, who smelled of gasoline, allegedly admitted to setting the church foyer on fire. He indicated that he targeted the Catholic Church because of a “mission,” the report says. Catholic priest Father Kevin Robinson has sued NJ governor Phil Murphy alleging that executive order 107, invoked to fight the Coronavirus Pandemic, is infringing on his 1st and 14th amendment rights.
Fr. Robinson who serves St. Anthony of Padua church in North Caldwell, NJ alleges that he has been unable to carry out his priestly functions due to the COVID-19 lockdown, saying in an email to his parishioners ”my civil rights have been violated as a result of Gov. Murphy’s unconstitutional order to shut down religious services in the State.”
According to the suit Father Robinson:
“has been threatened by local law enforcement with arrest and criminal prosecution if he dares to offer a Mass or conduct any other public gathering in his church, which remains closed due to this threat.”

Niño Church in Manila Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 10) — A fire gutted the Sto. Niño de Pandacan Parish in Manila on Friday afternoon. The blaze, which started at the back side of the church at around 1:07 p.m, reached the third of an 11-level fire alarm system some 15 minutes later. That means up to 10 fire trucks were dispatched to fight the blaze. The fire caused extensive damage to the church's interior. Man drove a minivan into the Church then set the church on fire with parishioners still inside.

The man threw an incendiary device causing the fire
He deliberately rammed his vehicle into the Church and set it on fire.
The police were then called and he lead them on a high speed chase.

The man has been caught with no further details.

Maybe the minivan driver was a parishioner - a disgruntled parishioner?

Should Good Catholics Read Far-Right Catholic Blogs? by John Paul Shimek 06/30/2016 Last weekend, Ines San Martin of Crux reported that Pope Francis “has vowed in a new interview that he won’t be slowed down by resistance from ‘ultra-conservatives’ in the Church who ‘say no to everything,’ insisting, ‘I’m going ahead without looking over my shoulder.’”
Good Catholics everywhere cheered the words of the Holy Father, the Successor of St. Peter.
You see, they readily understood that a handful of far-right ideologues do not get to determine the course of Christ’s Church. It doesn’t matter if those ideologues represent semi-schismatic enclaves or write popular blogs. Christ the Lord has empowered the Church’s Magisterium in communion with the Successor of St. Peter to lead the People of God. Not them.
Nonetheless, sometimes it can be instructive to read these far-right ideologues. Doing so, reveals some things worth noting about the signs of the times; and, taking stock of those things…
