Here goes: Pope Francis gets the blame for the Zika Virus because Pope invaded Rio during World Youth Day in 2013.

Already blame is laid upon the Pope by Marcos Lago, a leading infectious disease specialist and pediatrician at the University of Rio de Janeiro:

RIO DE JANEIRO – Could all the enthusiasm for the selection of Pope Francis in 2013 inadvertently have led to the introduction of Zika virus in the Americas?

That’s the hypothesis of Marcos Lago, a leading infectious disease specialist and pediatrician at the University of Rio de Janeiro.

Lago and other experts have been trying to surmise when and how the Zika virus came to Brazil, which is now the epicenter of what the World Health Organization is calling a global health emergency.

A leading theory until now is that Zika arrived in 2014 when Brazil hosted the World Cup and thousands of soccer fans arrived from around the globe. Another is that it arrived with canoeing teams from French Polynesia for a championship in Rio that same year. The Pacific region saw an outbreak of Zika in 2013 and 2014.

Lago thinks it’s more likely that the virus arrived during the World Youth Day celebration in July 2013, just four months after then Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was named pope. The trip to Rio was Francis's first abroad in his papacy. WP Read More>>>>>>
