POLISH NATIONALISTS ATTACK VOLUNTEERS RENEWING THE ANCIENT GREEK CATHOLIC CEMETERY

The Association of Ukrainians in Poland (OUP) expresses hope that the persons who have attacked the members of the Magurycz camp will be punished in accordance with effective law. This is reported by the publication “Nashe Slovo”.

On the night of April 29, an attempt was made to attack the participants of the Magurycz camp in the village of Stara Guta (Gmina Narol Lubscza district, Województwo podkarpackie). The camp was involved in the restoration of the old Greek Catholic cemetery in this area. Among his participants were the chairman of the Magurycz Society, Shimon Modjeyevsky and a well-known volunteer, teacher Olga Soliar. She reported that the attackers arrived at the old cemetery, where the camp was located, intimidated the participants. Among other things, they shouted: "Wyp ... ać na Ukrainę" (vulgar - "Get back to Ukraine"), accusing the camp participants to restore the graves of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers. Police from Narol came to the call. 5 people were detained, all of them were drunk.

“We consider an attack on the camp of the Magurycz community in Stara Guta as a consequence of hostility and aggression to everything that is Ukrainian, adopted by the extreme right forces. And this is also the result of a poor reaction of the state authorities of the Republic of Poland to similar cases that have taken place in Poland in recent years,” the statement says the organization.

The Association of Ukrainians in Poland reports that this year on June 3 in Przemyśl (as well as every year), the Pikulitsk church procession will take place. Given the instances of aggression against Ukrainians and their activities, there are fears that new provocations are planned to be undertaken during this event,” the statement states. Source
