Former FSSPX Superior of Germany Joins a Novus Ordo Community

The former District Superior of the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X in Germany, Swiss-born Father Firmin Udressy, has left the Priestly Fraternity to join the neo-conservative Novus Ordo community of St Martin in France. The Superior of the Swiss District, Father Thibaud Favre, announced in a statement on 18 September "with deep sadness and great regret" that Father Udressy had moved to "a conciliar community". The statement expressed gratitude for his priestly ministry. Father Udressy was appointed German superior in 2013 at the age of 36, and returned to Switzerland in 2019. He was due to become District Superior in Canada this autumn. Germany is the third largest FSSPX district in the world after the USA and France. Udressy grew up near Ecône, where the FSSPX developed in the early days and where it now has a seminary. His brother is an FSSPX priest and three of his sisters are nuns. Source

The Decadence of the Diocese that Expelled the FSSP

Envy was the main reason why the Priestly Society of Saint Peter (FSSP) was expelled from the diocese of Quimper, France, writes PaixLiturgique.fr (13 September). The two FSSP parishes in the diocese gathered hundreds of faithful when even the cathedral was empty, celebrated liturgies in abundance and had rich collections. While vocations to the Novus Ordo are dwindling in the diocese of Quimper, vocations to the suppressed Roman rite are flourishing in the same area. One of the two FSSP parishes, Saint Matthieu, alone has sent three seminarians to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint-Pierre in recent years, an average of one vocation a year for the last four years. This year, another seminarian is entering one of the traditional seminaries. There are also vocations to the SSPX, several of whose priests come from the diocese of Quimper, including Abbé Troadec, who is stationed in the area, Abbé Salaün in Grenoble, Abbé Guéguen, currently in Canada, and others.
