Mobile Catholic priest arrested, archdiocese confirms

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Catholic priest in Mobile was arrested today on two misdemeanor charges, News 5 has learned. Rev. David Tokarz, 73, a pastor at Our Savior Catholic Church in West Mobile, was arrested on the charge of sexual misconduct and harassment or harassing communications, according to the Mobile County Metro Jail Log. He reportedly was booked into jail at 11:20 a.m. and released three hours later on bail.News 5 contacted the Archdiocese of Mobile about this matter. Here’s the statement a spokesperson released: “The Archdiocese of Mobile is aware that misdemeanor charges have been brought against Fr. David Tokarz, Pastor of Our Savior Church in Mobile, by an adult woman. Since this is an active legal matter, questions about the charges should be referred to Fr. Tokarz’s attorney.“We ask for your prayers for all affected by this situation.” Source

Catholic priest, 60, burns to death after spark ignites his robes during blessing of the fire ceremony

A priest has died from horrific injuries after his robe caught fire from a candle spark during an Easter vigil in the Spanish city of Zaragoza. He suffered 50 per cent burns in the freak accident over the Easter weekend and lost his battle for life after four days in intensive care. The priest, Javier Sánchez, was engulfed in flames amid a candle-lighting ceremony in a Spanish convent. An ember bowl surrounded by candles caught fire and shot off sparks which ignited his robes. Reports say the 60-year-old died a hero as he stood between the burning bowl and nuns to protect them. An investigation is underway as it is believed paraffin had been used on the ember bowl to help it burn. Father Sanchez was rushed to Miguel Servet Hospital in Zaragoza but suffered horrific injuries and despite the best efforts of doctors later died following multiple organ failure.
